As we joined California College of the Arts for their annual 2009 Senior fashion show held May 8, located at 1111 Eighth Street in a canopy stationed outside their main downtown campus, we were overwhelmed with the vast amount of integrity, creativity and passion involved in a designing a garment to come down the catwalk. Although Surface magazine was the preeminent media sponsor, NOVO attended and distributed their magazine at this event as well as the previous night at a CCA Friends of Fashion Cocktail Preparty. The runway show was juried by predominant industry figures and featured innovative designs worn by professional models. From avant-garde to pret-a-porter, the show had it all and came nothing short of our expectations. Students of boundless promise and notability included; Paloma Broadley, Tiffany Crosby, Heather Johnson, Lina Lavi, Cyd Morris, Cathy Nguyen, Megan Robertson, Stephanie Sandstrom, Zoe Shaw, and Crystal Titus. Surface magazine also endowed student designer James J. Edwards with the award of Emerging Talent Award. It was a great honor attending and being a part of the 2009 Senior Fashion Show and look forward to seeing what next years designers have in store. Text: Chhavi Nanda
