The recent buzz around San Francisco's best boutique Shotwell is no joke. Due to the hindmost stir Shotwell has caused they are relocating to a bigger and more central location, on Grant Avenue. Posted adjacent to China town, Shotwell sits offering rare local handmade designs, high end name brands, as well as unique vintage pieces. Shotwell has been featured in local designer events such as Indie Mart, which is a fashion event that focuses on handcraft designs based from San Francisco. Spring/Summer 2009 Music Theory Benefit Fashion Show presented by University Housing's F.A.M.E and T-House at San Francisco State University. Compassion. Hard work. Devotion. Dedication. Motivation. Five things you need in order to create one big production to support a cause. After three months of hard work, two clubs coming together, one great fashion show staff and most importantly, dedicated models and stylists, fashion and finding a cure for autism are the only things that matter at one point. Having to put together my second fashion show was not only the hardest thing to do, it would have to be finding my passion in the two things I live for: fashion and finding a cure for autism. Being President of F.A.M.E. (Film, Art, Music and Entertainment) and a member of T-House (Towers Hall Government) at San Francisco State University I found myself putting together this fashion show with Stacy Yip (founder of F.A.M.E.) with support from my fellow staff: Tamerra Griffin (President of T-House) presented as Host, Felice Ordaz presented as our Set Designer, Shani Ealey (Head of T-House) presented as our Co-Executive Producer and Laura Hennessy presented as our Head Assistant. "Autism Speaks Foundation" is a non-profit organization that raises money to help find a cure for autism. People probably ask why we chose autism as our center point.The anticipation, the planning, the producing and the organizing was probably the best part of the creating this fashion show. Being Assistant Producer and all the hard work I had to put in, I probably wouldn't have been able to survive this fashion show without the Executive Producer, Stacy Yip. There's nothing better than doing what you have a passion for along with supporting a great cause. Music. Fashion. Give.

CCA Fashion Show 2009

As we joined California College of the Arts for their annual 2009 Senior fashion show held May 8, located at 1111 Eighth Street in a canopy stationed outside their main downtown campus, we were overwhelmed with the vast amount of integrity, creativity and passion involved in a designing a garment to come down the catwalk. Although Surface magazine was the preeminent media sponsor, NOVO attended and distributed their magazine at this event as well as the previous night at a CCA Friends of Fashion Cocktail Preparty. The runway show was juried by predominant industry figures and featured innovative designs worn by professional models. From avant-garde to pret-a-porter, the show had it all and came nothing short of our expectations. Students of boundless promise and notability included; Paloma Broadley, Tiffany Crosby, Heather Johnson, Lina Lavi, Cyd Morris, Cathy Nguyen, Megan Robertson, Stephanie Sandstrom, Zoe Shaw, and Crystal Titus. Surface magazine also endowed student designer James J. Edwards with the award of Emerging Talent Award. It was a great honor attending and being a part of the 2009 Senior Fashion Show and look forward to seeing what next years designers have in store.

This is possibly the worst economy since the great depression. High unemployment, drastic inflation, a dying stock market, and the downsizing of many industries. Hey- I have an idea, let’s start a magazine. Better yet, let’s make it portable so you can carry it in your pocket or purse, and also use it as a practical guide. Let’s target a demographic that thrives in San Francisco, but is largely ignored in the local magazine market. We created NOVO to reflect the attitudes, lifestyle and culture of forward-thinking, creative San Franciscans. NOVO is the ultimate resource for modern urban living in portable format. NOVO is quality content, useful information, brilliant imagery, clean contemporary design, eco friendly, and portable.

Simply publishing a proven concept in a printed format was not enough. I wanted to provide both a published distribution, as well as an internet experience that meets the needs of readers and advertisers in a packaged format. After finally arriving in San Francisco following my 2300 mile drive across the country, and while diligently in search of a strategic technology partner, I eventually discovered Si Design Group. Their founder and Art Director, Samim Surel, was looking for a fresh idea in a magazine, while I was in search of the most creative ad agency I could find . I guess the harder you work, the luckier you get.

I can now say I have gone full circle, and here I am back in California. There’s a reason for everything. I do hope you enjoy the launch preview issue of NOVO Magazine, and we look forward to giving you our best in every issue.
